A physiatrist is a medical physician who specializes in helping patients to recover function after trauma such as a stroke, or surgery. In treating these patients, physiatrists lead a group of physical, occupational, recreational and speech therapists, nurses, psychologists (for counseling), and other social workers to help with the faster recovery.
